As the search for little Madeleine McCann marks its first anniversay, a Kent mother is still detemined to discover what happened to her daughter nine years after she vanished.

Debbie Griggs hasn't been seen since May 5 1999. Now her mother, Pat Cameron, is hoping that a fresh television appeal will bring an end to the family's torment.

Debbie, a mother of three, was pregnant when she went missing from her home in Cross Road, Walmer. Her white Peugeot car was found abandoned a week later.

Police conducted a "protracted and robust" investigation. But there were no signs of Debbie.

Her desperate mother even called in a pyschic to help. A year ago Debbie's marriage to Andrew Griggs was dissolved on presumption of her death.

Last September a Walmer church was crowded with family and friends for an emotional memorial service which, Mrs Cameron said, gave everyone the chance to say goodbye.

The television appeal for news about what happened to Debbie is due to be screened in June.

Her mum said: "My dearest wish is that she will come knocking at the door one day but in my heart I know she is not going to."
