POLICE today appealed for witnesses to come forward following two more explosions involving powerful fireworks.

The Post Office in Borstal Street, Rochester, was attacked last night when yobs smashed a window and threw a firework inside the shop. The roof and an interior wall were hit and part of the building damaged by smoke.

A second firework attack took place at 4.30am today in Strood with vandals blowing up a telephone box at the corner of Brompton Farm Road and Cliffe Road.

These are the latest in a spate of explosions in Medway over the past two weeks.

Most of the attacks have been on telephone boxes although a Skoda car was also blown up last week.

Medway's police chief, Supt David Pryde, said: "We would ask all members of the public to be vigilant and report anything suspicious to us immediately.

"To date, we have been extremely fortunate that no-one has been injured or killed - and this includes the offenders."

Anyone with information is asked to get in touch with police on 01634 884252 or contact the free and confidential Crimestoppers service on 0800 555111.
