KENT bagged three wickets in the opening session of day two but hosts Surrey continued to make good progress in taking their score on to 440 for six.

The visitors finally broke a fourth wicket stand worth 231 in 58 overs by dismissing Surrey skipper Jon Batty for an excellent 129 from 194 balls.

Batty’s 234-ball stay came to an end when Amjad Khan had him well caught overhead at mid-wicket by Rob Ferley in the fourth over of the day at an overcast Oval.

Mark Ramprakash moved his overnight score of 123 on to 157 before he fell to Mohammad Sami and the second new ball.

In attempting to pull a quick bouncer the former Middlesex and England bat dragged the ball onto off stump to make it 379 for five.

Khan then bagged his second wicket of the morning when he ran one in to Adam Hollioake (2) to snare the former England one-day skipper leg before.

Azhar Mahmood then strolled in to crack 14 of Sami’s next over, including two exquisite push driven fours through backward point to raise the Surrey 400 and a maximum fifth batting bonus point.

By lunch Mahmood had reached 27 and Ali Brown had cantered to 54 including 10 fours.
