Tarmac trick costs hundreds

FAMILIES in the Maidstone area are being swidled out of hundreds of pounds with a simple tarmac trick.

Men knock on doors offering to resurface driveways for "about £35" - but after they have dug up the drive they say the price was per square metre. The final bill can run into hundreds of pounds and householders can either pay up or be left with a damaged driveway.

Incidents in Snodland and Larkfield have been reported to Maidstone and Malling Police but it is believed the men are also targeting other villages in the area.

Acting Sgt Steve Griffiths said: "We are simply warning members of the public that these people are operating in the area and to be vigilant at all times. Generally, if a deal seems too good to be true, then it is too good to be true."

Anyone with information about the bogus tarmac team should call 01622 608127.
