The funeral cortege left from niece Jennifer Adams’s house in Lordswood in the morning and were joined by the taxi convoy of about 50 cars on North Dane Way.

Miss Adams said:“All the family were really pleased with the taxis, it made it feel really special.

“It has been hard and emotional but a really lovely send off.

“The stories we have heard about him today have been very funny, it’s been good to meet everybody.”

Tim Paton, owner of Rainham Cab Company, based in Station Road, was one of Mr Adams’s best friends.

He said: “It was a sad occasion but there about 150-200 people who turned up, it went as well as it could.
