A DOG called Teabag joined staff and volunteers at Medway's pet hospital for a special birthday party.

The PDSA, based in Gillingham, is celebrating 81-years of providing free care for sick and injured pets in Medway.

The veterinary charity first came to the area in 1927 when it opened a clinic in Chatham.

In 2002, a purpose-built PetAid hospital was opened at Gillingham Business Park.

It has five consulting rooms, two operating theatres, a waiting room, dispensary and separate recovery kennels for cats and dogs.

Maria Martin, PDSA PetAid hospital manager, said: “PDSA is extremely proud of its heritage and I would like to thank our staff and clients for all of the support they have given the charity over the years.

“The staff and I are looking forward to helping many more sick and injured pets in the years to come.”

Every day PDSA veterinary staff see around 100 sick and injured pets, and provide approximately 48,000 treatments each year, ranging from dental work to major orthopaedic operations.
