Kent is set for a major thaw over the weekend, with temperatures rising steadily.

The Met Office is predicting the cold snap to give way to warmer temperatures that could rise by at least 10 degrees by Monday.

It comes as much of the county is still shivering in temperatures of -3 to -1 and with snow and ice evident across Kent.

Motorists are still being warned to beware of icy conditions overnight tonight, with gritters being deployed across the county.

But, tomorrow temperatures could rise to above freezing, with a prediction of a positively balmy 10C by Monday in comparison.

Chief Meteorologist at the Met Office, Neil Armstrong, said: "From Monday the whole UK will be in the warmer air mass, with daytime temperatures reaching 11-12C in the south, replacing days which never got above freezing the week before. Monday will see rain showers in the north west with drier conditions in central and eastern parts."
