James Tredwell says he is excited about the prospect of winning his first Test cap on the winter tour to Bangladesh but is taking nothing for granted.

The 27-year-old Kent off-spinner is with the England Lions in the United Arab Emirates this week, before linking up with the rest of the senior Test and one-day squads, including team-mate Joe Denly.

He said: "It was a great boost to be named in both squads and my confidence is pretty high at the moment. Being a part of the whole England set-up has put me in a good place mentally and the ball has been coming out well in the nets.

"It’s my first time in the United Arab Emirates and I’m looking forward to Bangladesh. I’m going with my eyes wide open and looking on it as a great life experience.

"I’m taking things as they come. I may play, I may not but I have been working hard, waiting for my chance and if it comes, I will give it my best."

It surely will if England, as expected play two spinners on the Bangladesh trip, with Tredwell now installed as the second spinner and understudy to Graeme Swann.

Tredwell added: "The main purpose was to do well in South Africa and I feel the confidence comes off the back of what I did last season and drawing on that.

"I enjoyed bowling on different surfaces in the nets and also spent time talking to England spinning coach Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq."
