A revived Quexpo steam engine rally attracted around 6,000 people to Birchington’s Quex Park over the weekend.

It was the first time in 22 years the event had been held in the grounds of the stately home and it included many of the features of the original including steam engines, classic cars, a dog show, birds of prey, arts and crafts, sideshows and trade stands.

Visitors were also able to recall the previous events with a display of Quexpo archive material loaned by the Powell Cotton museum.

Sylivia Scorey, one of the organisers, said: “Considering it was our first Quexpo, it’s been a great success. We have already booked again for next year when we hope we will be able to build up the number of visitors.

“One of our exhibitors who has just restored a Foden steam lorry was a regular at the previous Quexpos so he was delighted to make a return to the park.”
