More than 3,000 people were left without power this morning.

Around 3,300 customers in the Barming area of Maidstone suffered a power cut because of a fault on an underground electricity cable.

A spokesman for EDF Energy said engineers restored supplies to more than 1,400 customers at 7.46am and a further 132 at 8.04am.

Some households also lost their water supply.

The spokesman added: "Engineers are working as quickly and as safely as possible to ensure the remaining customers have power again soon.

"We appreciate it can be difficult to be without power, especially at this time of year. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by this incident."
