Police have found £300,000 of cannabis after a raid in a small Kent village.

The 2,200 plants were discovered in two barns in Newnham, between Sittingbourne and Faversham, earlier this week.

It is thought to be the biggest ever haul in Mid Kent, with an estimated street value of £300,000.

Forensic investigations are continuing to find out who's behind the factory.

Sergeant Dave Smith of the Faversham Neighbourhood Team said: 'I want to reassure residents that hydroponics factories are a rarity in this area and where we receive information about suspicious premises we will respond swiftly to deal with them. Through today's action we have been able to take more than £300,000 worth of cannabis off the streets, which is a great result. We will now work with forensic investigators to find out who is behind the factory and bring those responsible to justice.'
