JOB cuts could be in the pipeline at Swale Borough Council as part of plans to streamline its services and cut the authority’s demands for council tax.

Cllr Andrew Bowles, leader of the Tory-controlled council, said the executive was looking at ways to restructure and refocus the council’s services.

He added: “We have either got to reduce the quality of our services or reduce the range of services. It may mean some job cuts or some new recruitment.”

Cllr Bowles said the Conservatives had already outlined their policy to restructure the council and, in accordance with the wishes of residents who replied the authority’s council tax survey, they aimed to cut the borough’s tax share next year by 3.3 per cent.

Budget details are due to be ready at the executive meeting on February 12 when members could propose cutting the borough’s demand to Band D tax payers by £3 or £4.
