Three remanded after post office raid

THREE men accused of an attempted armed robbery of a post office appeared in court on Monday.

John Hughes, 19, of Bridge Road, Sheerness, Alexander Rudkin, 30, of South Street, Queenborough, and Christopher Maclean, 22, of Unity Street, Sheerness, are accused of the attempted robbery of a post office in Lower Halstow.

Hughes is also charged with possessing an imitation firearm.

The three, who followed the proceedings by TV link from Elmley Prison, will return to court on August 9, when they are expected to enter pleas.

Judge Jeremy Carey remanded them in custody. Bail applications are to be made on Thursday.

The post office at The Green was raided on June 6. Nothing was stolen.
