the exhibition

A forgotten teddy bear and gold pocket watch which stopped at
the exact time the boat Titanic sank are just a few of
the items on display in Kent today.

The exhibition was voted one of the top five touring
shows in the country and "Titanic Hope and Glory" opens here
for the first time.

The collection started touring in 2002 and since then has been
seen by more than two million people around the UK.

It features rare artefacts from the liner's passengers and crew
including china dinner plates which served the first meals aboard
the Titanic, silverware, letters and linen.

The exhibition was started by Sean Szmalc when he was just
five-years-old.

He said: "To remember all the heroic passengers and crew that's
what we really wish to do with the exhibition because it's such an
important part of our history."

In 1912, RMS Titanic hit an iceberg and sank during its maiden
voyage from Southampton to New York killing 1517 people.

"It's something that we really need to try and remember for the
future generations as well. Titanic wasn't just a story, it was an
actual event."

But there are also props and costumes from James Cameron's film
Titanic on display including the Heart of the Ocean necklace worn
by Kate Winslet.

The exhibition, about the Titanic and her sister ships the
Olympic and Britannic, will run from July 1 until September 30 in
The Gallery at The Historic Dockyard in Chatham.
