A BUS and a police car were in collision just yards away from the bus’s final stop, causing gridlock in a busy town centre.

The number 114 Nu Venture bus was completing its journey from the centre of Chatham to Military Road when it collided with a police van in Dock Road.

The accident happened at 1.05pm on Thursday. There were several passengers on board but they were not injured. The bus driver was also unhurt.

Norman Kemp, owner of Nu Venture, said: “The incident did not cause any delays to the 114 route but did cause traffic congestion in the area.”

It is thought the police van was not answering an emergency call at the time of the crash and the matter is not being investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
