A new road that should ease congestion for thousands of
holidaymakers each year has been opened.

The dock exit road has been built to ease congestion at the
roundabout outside the Eastern Docks, at the bottom of the A2
Jubilee Way.

For years, long queues have built up inside the docks as
vehicles wait to leave, and negotiate the busy roundabout, heading
either for the A2 or the A20.

Sally Boazman, better known as BBC Radio 2’s Sally Traffic, was
the guest of honour who cut the ribbon to open the new road and
watch the first vehicles use it.

Lorries heading for the A20 and M20 can now drive under Jubilee
Way, once they have completed all the controls within the port, and
join the A20 beyond the roundabout.

It is estimated that the new road will significantly reduce the
time it takes vehicles to leave the docks, as well as cutting the
cost of fuel they used to have to use while waiting at the busy
roundabout.
