UK CAR production rose 1.9 per cent and car exports increased by 5.6 per cent in the first half of 2004, according to data from the Office of National Statistics.

This confirms a recent growth pattern, which has seen 10 monthly rises in output during the past 12 months.

Export volumes rose for the fourth time in 2004 and the 21st time over the past two years.

Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), said: “Car production in the UK is now truly global in terms of what we produce and the markets for which cars are distributed.
