Students showcased the latest in hair design fashions and cutting trends at MidKent College’s annual hair show.

The catwalk-style event took place at the college’s Horsted site in Chatham.

About 50 Level 3 hair design students from the college’s Medway and Maidstone centres took part in the show, exhibiting their handiwork on more than 100 models.

Beverley Noble, head of school for hair design and holistic therapies, said: “This year’s show has had a strong commercial focus.

“Much of the students’ work was inspired by a recent educational visit to the Wella Academy in Barcelona.

“The standard of work produced by all the learners involved has been incredibly high and the college is proud to have had the opportunity to showcase their skills and creativity.”

As well as offering the pupils an opportunity to show off their talents, the 2009 event is estimated to have raised £1,500 to be shared between two charities: Help for Heroes and Cancer Research UK.

Level 3 hair design student Holly Lydon-Love, who attends the City Way campus in Rochester, said: “It was great to visit Barcelona’s Wella Academy and use what we had learned there to inform our own styling and we’re all proud of the work we’ve done.

“But we’re also happy to have raised so much money for our two chosen charities.

“This year’s show was creative, eclectic and, above all, fun, and I’m proud to have been a part of it.”
