Video: Festival
celebrates Ashford's Shared Space

Ashford's shared space scheme has become the focus of a festival
of the arts which kicked-off today.

Now in its fifth year, the Ashford Visual Arts and Architecture
Festival runs until the end of the month and will feature a dance
performance in Elwick Square which will be "embracing Ashford's
shared space road scheme and the concept of negotiation".

Three performances will be given on September 25 for the dance
which is described as "performers each negotiating their path with
the other, not touching but instinctively aware of their
movements.

Each performance is unique with the eye contact and the ensuing
movement dictating how the performance unfolds".

Other events taking part during the festival include over a
hundred life-sized drawings of residents at St Mary's Church, a
graffiti mural around the new Ashford Library, a skateboarding film
at the Art Room in North Street and an exhibition of flip-book
animation at the temporary library in Park Mall.

The festival is funded by Ashford Borough Council and Kent
Extended Schools Service.
