These shocking images were captured on a mobile phone show the brutal and merciless attack suffered by a 13-year old boy last summer.

We have seen the complete footage, released to us by Kent Police, but felt that we couldn't show it all. The video above is horrific enough.

Jordan Akehurst, 14 and victim Jack Blanchard had met for a fight at Parkwood Green in July 2008.

But it went beyond a normal playground scrap with Jack suffering kicks to the head as he lay on the ground.

Akehurst, 14, was this week locked up for his part in the attack, which left the Rainham teenager braindamaged; unable to speak, wash or dress himself.

Akehurst and two other youths in the dock over the incident were told by a judge their behaviour was rightly described as violent and cowardly.

After knocking Jack to the ground, Akehurst stamped on his head and continued to kick and punch him.

Dylan Richards and another teenager, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, joined in with kicks as the victim lay seriously injured on the ground.

Akehurst, of Castlemaine Avenue, Gillingham, will serve half the sentence in a young offenders institute.

Richards, 15, of Skinner Street, Gillingham, was sentenced to 18 months detention and training.

The other youth, aged 15 and also from Gillingham, was given a community order with two years supervision after Judge Jeremy Carey expressed dismay that he could not, by law, send him into "richly deserved" custody.

Akehurst admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent and Richards and the other youth admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Maidstone Crown Court heard that 13-year-old Mr Blanchard, from Rainham, ended up in intensive care on a ventilator after the attack in Parkwood Green on July 23 last year.

The Rainham Mark Grammar School pupil had a bright future ahead of him but now faces both physical and psychological problems and has undergone a personality change.

Mr Blanchard, who also suffered a fractured eye socket, had to learn to speak, wash and dress himself again.

Jack Blanchard's mother, Maxine, said: "I support Kent Police releasing the video footage of the attack on Jack. At the end of the day if it stops at least one child going through what Jack has been through then its achieved something."
