POLICE have issued a warning after a van driver attempted to grab a young girl as she walked home from school.

The incident happened at Wainscott, near Rochester. The 11-year-old girl had stopped to look at her shoe when the man pulled up at about 3.45pm yesterday and got out of his vehicle.

He tried to force her into the front passenger seat, but she managed to struggle free and run home. He is described as white, aged between 25 to 35 years, and of muscular build with black hair. He was wearing dark clothing. The white van he was driving had red lettering on the side.

Det Sgt Derek Littler said: "This has been very frightening for the victim. We would like to warn parents and young people to be vigilant."

Anyone with information or who can help is asked to contact Medway police, telephone 01634 884252 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
