Met Office issues warning for fog in Kent

Parts of the county are shrouded in fog this morning.

Areas of fog, including some dense freezing patches, are affecting some areas of Kent.

A severe weather warning was in place until 9am, but the conditions are expected to linger into the afternoon.

Forecasters say visibility could drop to less than 100 metres in some places, causing tricky travel conditions.

A spokesman said: "Fog is expected to be locally slow to lift and clear, lingering for much of the morning and perhaps onwards into the afternoon in some spots."

Highways England advises drivers to take care and allow extra time for journeys.

Head of road user safety, Stuart Lovatt, said: “Drivers should switch their headlights on when visibility is reduced – generally when you can’t see for more than 100 metres – and use fog lights if you’re struggling to see other vehicles.

"You shouldn’t use your lights on full beam as the fog can reflect the light back and reduce visibility.

“We’d also encourage drivers to check their lights before setting out and make sure they know how to operate their front and rear fog lights.”
