Water skiing showpiece washed out

Rough seas scuppered the first day of competition at the European Water Ski Racing Championships at Ramsgate on Sunday.

More than 90 international competitors had been due to take to take part in four races during the day.

However, the chief judge and jury of the championships decided conditions were too dangerous for the racing to go ahead.

Tony Williams, the British water ski chairman of racing and GB team captain, said: "It was very disappointing for the competitors, who were very keen to get out on the water and start racing, and the spectators, but safety has to be our first consideration."
