Wayne Parnell is vowing to keep his feet firmly on the ground despite the many plaudits that have come his way in the space of just a few months.

The 20-year-old South African paceman links up again with his Kent team-mates this week and will be sure to grab most of the media spotlight in the build-up.

Parnell was a relative unknown quantity when he first arrived at Canterbury in chilly April to boost Kent’s injury-hit pace attack but it’s a different story now nearly four months on.

He was the find of the tournament in the World Twenty20 finals and then returned for a second spell helping Spitfires see off Durham Dynamos in the domestic quarter-finals to seal Kent’s third successive appearance at finals day this weekend.

Parnell said: "Hopefully the chances of Kent winning it again are pretty high, our first priority though is to win the semi-final.

"There is pressure on me to perform every time now and people expect me to do well.

"My aim is always to do my best in all disciplines of the game, give 100 per cent and treat every game the same.

"I enjoy playing Twenty20 cricket. It’s only four overs each for bowlers, so you have to give everything."
