This weekend, Margate celebrates the long-awaited opening of Turner Contemporary with a host of activities taking place the art gallery, the Harbour Arm and around the Old Town.

This is KentOnline's guide to what's happening and when:

9.30am: Tracey Emin (left) and Jools Holland (below) will open the gallery and the first exhibition, entitled 'Revealed: Turner Contemporary Opens'. At 10am, they will be joined by children from Holy Trinity and St. John's Primary School, Margate.

10am: Graham Gussin's light installation, Illumination Rig 2011, will be turned on. Using film set lights, it will continue to shine on the gallery until midnight.

10am-4pm: Margate Camera Obscura will be capturing a 360-degree panoramic image of Margate Harbour using CCTV cameras. Visitors will be able to share their experiences of the opening day and receive a free print of the views.

11am-4pm: Colourfully-dressed art performers will be popping up around Margate's Old Town as part of the 'Bodies in Urban Spaces' installation.

8pm: Cocos Lovers will hold a joint performance with Ladies of the Lake in the Foyle Rooms, on the ground floor of the gallery. This multi-instrument performance will combine traditional folk, African rhythms, accapella vocal arrangements and acoustic guitar and harmonica.

11am-5pm: Margate Museum in Market Place in the Old Town; Margate Gallery in Lombard Street; and the Pie Factory in Broad Street are all open to visitors.
