Holidaying in Kent: Chatham Historic Dockyard and Penshurst Place key destinations

People are increasingly turning to staycations for their holidays and choosing places they have see on TV.

The number of potential holidaymakers researching destinations featured on the box regularly increases whenever they are featured in a programme.

For Kent, Call the Midwife and Wolf Hall were the most influential shows.

For example the number of people googling Chatham's Historic Dockyard, where filming took place for BBC 1's Call the Midwife, shot up by 68% the compared to the day after the show was broadcast.

Other TV hotspots capturing the imaginations of travellers is Wolf Hall, which was partly filmed in Penshurst Place.

The Sittingbourne area has also come up - where some of the latest Wonderwoman scenes were filmed.

Nationally, the research revealed that filming locations are seeing a huge spike in interest after an episode is aired, as people clamour to see where the scenic beach shots from Broadchurch and action packed Game of Thrones storylines are filmed.

Acting head of marketing at Visit Kent, Sinead Hanna, said: "We know that film tourism is very popular with people nowadays.

"We know that people when they're watching on TV not only are absorbed by the story but have a real insensitive to go and see

"In Kent we are extremely fortunate to have a huge range of fantastic filming locations that film crews regularly choose to film their series here.

"It's great to see attractions capitalising on their filming potential.

"We've had music videos come down to the area and film crews because there is such a wonderful backdrop for filming."
