A 49-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of killing his 64-year-old wife.

Michael Herd, of Harold Street, Dover, in Kent, had pleaded not guilty to murdering Ann Herd, whose body was found at their house in June 2006.

Herd was jailed for life on Thursday by Maidstone Crown Court following a trial lasting seven days.

He was told he would have to serve a minimum of 15 years in prison before parole would be considered.
