Storm Eleanor: Warning of strong winds for Kent

Forecasters are warning people to prepare for "very strong winds" as Storm Eleanor blows towards Kent.

Heavy gusts are due to hit the county this evening and continue overnight and throughout tomorrow, causing potential damage and travel chaos.

The Met Office says public transport may be disrupted or cancelled, with bridges - such as the Sheppey and Dartford crossings - likely to be closed.

There may also be power cuts and disruption to mobile phone signals, as well as possible injuries caused by flying debris.

High tides could cause large waves and spray, presenting hazardous conditions along the coast.

The Met Office adds: "There is a chance that injuries and danger to life could occur from large waves, or beach material being thrown on to seafronts and coastal properties."

The yellow "be aware" wind warning, which covers the whole country, is in force from 6pm today until 6pm tomorrow.
