Police are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in Dover town centre last Wednesday, July 7.

A 64-year-old woman was reading notices outside the town hall in Biggin Street between 8pm and 8.30pm when she felt someone pulling at her handbag.

"The force used was considerable and it broke the strap," said PC Amanda Woodward. "The offender, a man, snatched her handbag."

The man is described as white, five feet eight inches tall, slight build, in his 20s, with blond to medium brown hair, and wearing a greeny yellow polo shirt, black or dark trousers or jeans. He ran off in the direction of Effingham Crescent.

"After the incident the woman was approached by a young boy aged around 13, who told her he saw what happened, and shortly after that another young boy also said he saw the incident," said PC Woodward.

"I would like to speak to these boys as they may seen something that will help the investigation."

PC Woodward can be contacted on 01303 289458 or 01622 690690. Alternatively witnesses can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
