Kent woman arrested for kidnap and death by dangerous driving after fatal crash in Peterborough

A Kent woman is in a serious condition in hospital and has been arrested for kidnap and causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash in Cambridgeshire.

The 27-year-old, who is being cared for at Peterborough City Hospital, is believed to have been in a Vauxhall Astra when it collided with a Mercedes Sprinter van in the early hours of yesterday morning.

The crash, on a key road through Peterborough, led to the death of 44-year-old dad Alexander Edney.

The driver of the Astra fled the area on foot before emergency services arrived at about 1.30am.

Later, two women - including the 27-year-old from Kent - who are believed to have been in the car were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and kidnap.

The Kent woman remains in a serious condition in hospital, but her injuries are not life-threatening.

The second woman, who is from Peterborough, is now in custody.

Three men aged 24, 37 and 41 were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have since been released under investigation.

Mr Edney died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

A Cambridgeshire Police investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
