Woman died from alcohol poisoning

A 61-year-old woman who was found slumped on a beach died from alcohol poisoning, an inquest was told.

Valerie Knight was found by a jogger lying near some stairs at the Sea Wall, Isle of Grain, near Rochester, on June 27. She had drunk a bottle of vodka and fallen asleep on the beach.

Despite attempts to save her by a local first aid group she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The inquest heard how she often walked along the beach for a break from looking after her husband who needs 24-hour care. Coroner Roger Sykes recorded a verdict of death by misadventure.
