A WOMAN has died after falling off a footbridge over the M20 near Maidstone.

The 30-year-old, who is understood to be from the Maidstone area, suffered serious head injuries in the fall yesterday and died later the same day at Maidstone Hospital.

Police said that they were not treating the death as suspicious.

They had received a number of calls from motorists reporting seeing a woman standing on the wrong side of the barrier.

She was originally described as being in her late teens.

The coastbound carriageway of the motorway, just past junction two at Wrotham, was closed for 40 minutes after the woman fell onto the road.

She was taken to Maidstone Hospital by air ambulance.
