Youngsters fight

Keeping safe while using the internet is the subject of a DVD which has been put together by young people for other young people.

Five students from Cheyne Middle School, in Jefferson Road, appeared in the DVD which has been funded by Kent Police and Kent County Council.

It is the first in a series giving advice to young people on how to stay safe when using social networking sites.

The idea came from students from youth organisations Kent Safe Schools and Medway Youth Partnership, and the KCC-run e-safety Group which monitors on-line safety in the county.

The DVD, launched at the council’s e-safety conference at the Kent Police College in Maidstone, last week will be sent to schools during the next few months along with supporting material to help staff use it to teach internet safety.

Paul Murray , assistant head teacher at Cheyne Middle School, said: “We decided to get involved because it is very important. We are totally against bullying and this is something that can happen on line."
