Your chance to keep Kent cleaner...or else

A NEW campaign aimed at stamping out flytipping and littering in Kent will be launched tomorrow.

The Clean Kent Campaign aims to raise awarenesss of the fact that householders and traders can face fines if rubbish removed from their property ends up being flytipped.

A new law means they have a duty to ensure that their rubbish is disposed of properly.

The campaign is to make people aware of this law so they can protect themselves.

For householders, this means thoroughly checking tradesmen employed to ensure they are registered waste carriers. For tradesmen, it means getting the appropriate licences and disposing of rubbish at licensed sites.

A series of roadshows are taking place at B&Q stores and Build Centers across Kent to highlight the rules.

The Clean Kent Campaign is run by Kent County Council with district and borough councils, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Crown Prosecution Service, the Highways Agency, Kent Probation Area and the Environment Agency.

It aims to protect the natural beauty of the county by reducing flytipping and littering and cutting the number of abandoned cars.

If you see someone flytipping contact the Clean Kent Campaign hotline 0845 345 0210. All calls are confidential.

ROADSHOWS PLANNED SO FAR:

September 9, Dartford B&Q, 10am-1pm, September 10, Build Center, Gravesend, 7.30am-11am; September 11, Build Center, Maidstone, 7.30am-11am; September 12, Build Center, Ashford, 7.30am-11am.
