A FATHER and son with strong connections to both Charlton Athletic and Gillingham football clubs will line up together at Bluewater shopping centre.

Former Gills and Addicks midfielder Gavin Peacock will join his father Keith for a signing session of the latter's new autobiography, No Substitute, at WH Smith on Thursday, January 27, from 6pm onwards.

Peacock senior – the Football League's first-ever substitute as a Charlton player in 1965 – is currently assistant manager at The Valley and previously managed Gillingham for six-and-a-half years in the 1980s, subsequently taking charge of Maidstone United.

Towards the end of his spell at Priestfield, he signed his son from Queens Park Rangers and the midfielder went on to enjoy a successful career at Newcastle United, Chelsea and QPR, before briefly joining Charlton shortly before he retired.

No Substitute, which was published in mid-November, has had a warm reception from Charlton and Gillingham fans, with more than 3,000 copies sold already.

It includes an extensive section on Gavin's career, as well as Keith’s period in charge at Gillingham, his record-breaking 591-game playing career at The Valley and his involvement with the management team at Charlton since 1991.

The book, priced £14.99, is available from publishers Charlton Athletic and bookshops throughout north-west Kent. It can be purchased online at www.cafc.co.uk.
