CHARLTON were comfortably beaten by an impressive Arsenal side at Highbury on Saturday.

Arsenal started the brighter of the two sides with Emmanuel Adebayor twice going close before they did take the lead in the 13th minute.

The goal came from a typically free-flowing move which ended with Thierry Henry cutting the ball back for midfielder Robert Pires to finish.

It was 2-0 just after the half hour mark when Adebayor capitalised on some indecision in the Addicks defence to slot home from close range.

Arsenal looked rampant and it was no surprise when they went three up four minutes after the break. Thomas Myhre did well to block Adebayor's initial effort but could do nothing as the rebound fell to Aleksandr Hleb to volley home.

Charlton: Myhre, Young (Powell 73), Perry, Hreidarsson, Spector, Rommedahl, Kishishev, Hughes (Bartlett h-t), Euell, Thomas (Holland 65), D Bent.
Subs Not Used: Andersen, Sorondo.
Attendance: 38,223.
