Charlton 2 Tottenham 0

GOALS from Jerome Thomas and Danny Murphy gave Charlton a deserved 2-0 victory over Tottenham at The Valley on Wednesday.

Former Arsenal winger Thomas gave the home side the lead as early as the fourth minute when he latched onto Paul Konchesky's pass to beat Spurs keeper Paul Robinson with a shot from the edge of the box that went in off the post.

Murphy had a chance to double Charlton's lead before the break when his shot was blocked by visiting captain Ledley King, while at the other end Dean Kiely was forced to make a good save to deny Frederic Kanoute.

Both sides had chances in the second half, but it was left to Murphy to wrap up the points in the 85th minute with a curling free kick after Hermann Hreidarsson had been fouled on the edge of the area.

The victory allowed the Addicks to leapfrog Middlesbrough into seventh in the Premiership table and boosts their hopes of a European place.

Charlton: Kiely, Young, El Karkouri, Perry, Hreidarsson, Holland, Murphy, Konchesky, Rommedahl (Johansson 53), Thomas (Fish 76), Bartlett (Euell 71). Subs Not Used: Andersen, Jeffers.

Attendance: 26,870.
