Draws against Brentford and Swindon Town have given manager Martin Allen plenty to smile about

Manager Martin Allen is confident that a Gillingham win is just around the corner.

Back-to-back draws against teams who reached last season’s play-offs have followed defeats from their opening two League 1 matches.

Allen (left) said: “We just need to keep practising, keep training, keep believing, keep cool, keep calm and keep working.

“We need to carry on what we did last year. It’s a step up in quality of play with the clubs we are playing against, that’s quite obvious.

“For the last two weeks the players have worked extremely hard, mentally and physically. You have to give credit and praise to the players.

“The supporters recognise the effort everyone puts in and we are definitely moving in the right direction.

“These players can do it, these players will do it. They have got a great will to win and to improve.

“It’s important we continue that work. We play Bristol City next week. They just beat us (in the Capital One Cup) and I am looking forward to that. I think we will have a big crowd and our team will be ready to go.”
