Callum Davies’ last-gasp sliding tackle against MK Dons on Saturday typified the Gillingham spirit, according to boss Martin Allen.

With seconds to go at Priestfield, Davies threw himself into a challenge, denying Dons’ Izale McLeod a clear route to goal. The final whistle blew moments later.

The 20-year-old has been a key change to the Gills team in recent weeks and Davies’ involvement has coincided with an upturn in results.

“He typifies the spirit and camaraderie of the 18 players that I have pulled together,” said Allen.

“He was absolutely fantastic. He has got to improve and there are bits of his game that need to get better, but generally and overall he typifies the sprit, the hard work and I am very proud of him.”
