Welling boss Jamie Day has announced his second signing of the day after snapping up a young defender from Premier League giants Arsenal.

The Wings have signed 19-year-old centre-back Zach Fagan on a one-year deal from the FA Cup winners.

Fagan has been with Arsenal since the age of 10 and featured for their under-21 and under-18 sides. He ended last season on loan at Boreham Wood.

Day, who earlier in the day completed the signing of full-back Ben Jefford from Port Vale, said: "Zach is a strong defender with a good background who I have kept an eye on, especially in the last few months of last season.

"He is a good size but is also mobile and can pass and play. He's another player that I'm excited about working with and trying to improve and develop."

Day himself is a former Arsenal youngster, who then moved onto Bournemouth before dropping into the non-league scene.
