Awuah's double strike cheers Gills

YOUNG striker Jones Awuah scored twice as Gillingham rounded off their pre-season preparation last night with a 3-1 win away to Ryman League Billericay.

Player-manager Andy Hessenthaler fielded his senior players in the first half when Gills took the lead through Mamady Sidibe's second goal in three days. Billericay fought back to equalise and the scoreline remained level until Awuah intervened in the second half.

He put Gillingham in front when he headed home a Matt Jarvis cross and then made it 3-1to give the club their seventh win in nine pre-season games.

Gillingham open their Nationwide League, Division 1, capaign away to Sheffield United on Saturday.
