Ben Hamer's injury-time penalty save secured a priceless away win for Charlton at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

Troubled Leeds were handed the chance to snatch a point when Diego Poyet pushed Aidan White in the box but Ross McCormack saw his effort kept out by Hamer.

Michael Tonge wasted a golden chance to put Leeds in front following a quick free-kick from McCormack.

And with the scores still level, Hamer pushed a 30-yard strike from McCormack on to the bar.

Charlton went on to claim their second win in three away matches when January signing Reza Ghoochannejhad's superb strike from the edge of the area flew into the top corner 10 minutes after the break.

The Addicks remain 21st in the table but are now three points clear of the relegation zone after a fifth clean sheet in seven games under new boss Jose Riga.

He said: "We know that for us clean sheets are so important.

"And we knew the situation with the league meant that if you can of course take something from this game then for our opponents it can affect them physiologically (psychologically)."
