FIVE pool players will be hoping to do Sheppey proud when they take part in the Embassy World Pool Championships qualifiers in Great Yarmouth this Friday.

One of the players Paul Bradnock, 38, who was a professional snooker player in the mid-1990s, is looking forward to the challenge although he admits it won't be easy.

He said: “There are 500 players in the competition and only four will make it through to the finals in Blackpool in May. So I know this is going to be very difficult.”

Bradnock is joined in the competition by four other Sheppey players - Dave Norris, Wayne Brett, Dave Goldsmith and Adrian Horn.

Regardless of how they get on the competition, all five players will be staying on at Great Yarmouth as they represent club side Sheppey A, in another big event over the weekend.

The island outfit are one of 96 teams in the UK looking to win the National Super League Team finals and Bradnock thinks they have a good chance of doing well.
