Adam Birchall looks set to stay at Gills a little longer, after a proposed deal to Woking collapsed.

Striker Birchall was in talks with the Skrill Premier side over a loan move away from Priestfield last week.

His chances in the Gills team have lessened following the arrival on loan of Jack Marriott, a player who was recently banging in the goals for Woking.

But it doesn’t look as if Birchall will be Woking’s replacement striker.

Gills boss Peter Taylor said: “As far as I am concerned that is probably dead at the minute.”

Birchall was due to play for the club’s development side on Tuesday afternoon at Oxford United, in a game that finished 1-1.

Another player who the Gills have made available is midfielder Charlie Allen. But the club have yet to receive any worthy offers.
