Bravo to miss the climax to Kent's season

DWAYNE BRAVO: included in a West Indies’ development squad

KENT’S West Indies' all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has revealed he is probably playing his last four-day game for the county.

Just moments after returning six for 112 against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, the 22-year-old all-rounder from Trinidad announced he looks set to miss Kent’s next home championship clash with Sussex starting on September 5 because of fresh commitments to his international board.

Though he signed a contract with Kent through to September 21, Bravo has been included in a West Indies’ development squad to play a triangular series against Australia and India in Singapore from September 7.

His international call, albeit for an emerging squad, will take precedence, meaning this Sunday’s Pro40 League clash against Derbyshire at St Lawrence seems likely to be Bravo’s last home appearance in a Spitfires’ shirt.

In confirming the bombshell, Bravo said: “I first heard about this development tournament a couple of weeks ago, it came from nowhere, completely out of the blue.

“But the competition has now been ratified by the three cricket boards involved and I’m due to meet up with the squad on September 5.

“I did sign a contract for Kent until the end of the season, but I think I have to play in this event.

“It is a bit of a disappoint for me because I was just settling down and I think I bowled much better here.”

Despite his six-wicket return at Trent Bridge Bravo’s six-week stint with the club has hardly been an unmitigated success.

He had taken only two wickets in his previous four championship appearances for the county and is averaging a modest 27.8 with the bat.

It seems unlikely that Kent will replace him for the remainder of the summer.
