Butters: I'll probably finish my career with Gills

GILLINGHAM centre-back Guy Butters has admitted that he expects to see out his playing career at Priestfield after signing a two-year extension to his contract. Butters, 32, says he had become resigned to leaving the club when the new contract offer came through.

"I was transfer-listed and expecting to leave when the new contract offer came out of the blue," he said. "I was extremely relieved because I never wanted to leave but I had to put my family's security first.

"The new contract will take me up to 35 so I expect to see out my career with Gillingham."

But he warned: "I won't be sitting back on it because I want my first team place back."
