CHESTFIELD CC will attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest cricket match this weekend.

The club will aim to play for 35-hours non-stop with the same 22 players on the field at Grasmere Road between 8am on Saturday and 7pm on Sunday.

It is hoped the marathon attempt - which is due to start 8am on Saturday and finish at 7pm on Sunday - will raise more than £10,000 for Pilgrims Hospices in East Kent.

The current official record is 33 and a half hours held by Australian side Citipoint although Northumberland side Red Row Sports Club are believed to have extended that record to 34 hours recently.

The two sides will be led by guest stars Vince Wells and Neil Burns.

Former Kent, Leicestershire and Durham paceman Wells played 476 first class matches in a 15-year career which included nine one-day appearances for England.

Burns played 436 first class games during a 17-year career which included spells at Buckingham, Essex, Leicestershire, Somerset and Western Province in South Africa.
