Daish revels in his finest hour

Liam Daish: Great highlight

Ebbsfleet boss Liam Daish claims winning the FA Trophy compares with anything he has achieved in football.

The 39-year-old enjoyed a successful playing career that saw him capped five times by the Republic of Ireland, lift the old Football League Division 3 championship with Cambridge United, as well as the Division 2 title and Auto Windscreens Shield at Birmingham.

Winning the Trophy is Daish’s first major managerial honour and he said afterwards: “This matches anything.

“If you win you win, it doesn’t matter what level you play at. You can only do as much win whatever league you are in or what cup you are in.

“You can’t underestimate this, it is a great achievement. I looked at the little gold medals and they have got ‘winners’ written on them.

“I said to the lads ‘they stay with you forever and no-one can take that away from you.’

“It is a great highlight for me to be responsible for a side that has won at Wembley in front of 25,000 Ebbsfleet fans.”
