CHAMP: Keith Atkinson

KENT windsurfing ace Keith Atkinson retained his British Formula Open Championship at Bridlington.

The first day of the UKWA event saw no racing due to a lack of wind but Atkinson, from Wilmington, near Dartford, secured four first places and a second in the five races held on day two.

He missed the first race on day three due to an equipment failure before the race officer stopped racing due to rough conditions, meaning Atkinson took the 2007 title comfortably.

He said: "I am delighted to have retained the title of British Open champion and to have picked up four first places in some testing conditions."

Atkinson now has a comfortable lead at the halfway point of the 2007 UKWA National Championships. He will return to action in the next event at Farmoor.
