A CONTROVERSIAL penalty late on gave Brighton & Hove Albion the points in a dire game.

Chris Hope was adjudged to have fouled Leon Knight as he tried to get after a loose ball and he converted from the spot.

It could be said that decision made up for an earlier penalty claim when Steve Banks brought down Alexis Nicolas but the appeals were waved away.

Gills’ only attempt on goal came when John Hills flashed a shot across goal and Patrick Agyemang’s clever backheel rolled just wide.

Gills couldn't muster a shot on target in the 90 minutes as their shocking recent form continues.
